PG-43: Music

6. I'm Catching Your Drift

(PG-43)
Dave Barry is the best humorist ever in my book. I've read and own a copy of all of his books. One of Dave's signature remarks is to say "if you catch my drift" when finishing off a subtle description of a sensitive situation. Most Boomers know what it's like to have a soon-to-be "ex" communicate the impending break-off using body language. It arrives surreptitiously like the tide, dawns on you clearly like the sun, and leaves you empty as the night.
LYRICS

I finally caught on today - I'm getting what you won't say
You're showing me in your own way - What you're about to do

I feel the vibe when I get near - I'm reading your signals loud and clear
All the things that I don't hear tell me I'm losing you

I'm catching your drift - I see you drifting away from me
I'm feeling the rift - You come across so painfully
If you're wondering if - You should just tell me candidly
No need - I'm catching your drift

The time flew by on our first date - Now it seems you just can't wait
To take me home before it's late - Then sail off into the blue
The sea is deep and the winds are strong - But you don't want me along
Unless my intuition's wrong - You're fishing for someone new

I'm catching your drift - I see you drifting away from me
I'm feeling the rift - You come across so painfully
If you're wondering if - You should just tell me candidly
No need - I'm catching your drift

The silence chills me to the bone - But I'm sure - I've been shown
You'd rather float your boat alone - No need talking to you

I finally caught on today - I'm catching your drift
