PG-43: Music
10. If I'd Only Known
(PG-43)
There's some degree of confession in this song. Not to the extent depicted in the lyrics, but enough to say that I was my own inspiration for the storyline. Perhaps many of us look back and wish we had spent more time with the spouse and kids. Seems that when you have kids you don't have time, and when you have time you don't have kids anymore. Some of us should feel fortunate to still have a spouse while there's time to try to make life what it should have been, if we'd only known.
LYRICS
If I'd only known - I'd live this long - I'd taken better care of your heart
I'd have been there - The times we could share - I'd gotten it right from the start
How could I have been so blind - To miss the signs that you'd shown
I know I'd have been - All you needed then - If I'd only known
God only knows - What I was thinking - Years ago
And God only knows why you're still here
And why you chose - To help me chase all my rainbows
When you needed me - I'd disappear
If I could have told - That as I grew old - I'd need the strength of your love
I'd done my best - I'd have no regrets - I'd given you more than enough
If I'd felt - The fear I feel - Of facing life on my own
I know I'd have been - All you wanted then - If I'd only known
God only knows - What I was thinking - Years ago
And God only knows why you're still here
And why you chose - To help me chase all my rainbows
When you needed me - I'd disappear
Now that I've seen - What your love will mean - I'll put you first in my life
I'll find a way - To show you each day - How glad I am you're my wife
Let me try - To bring our love - To just where it should have grown
Where we would have been - All you dreamed of then - If I'd only known
If I'd only known
