PG-43: Music

10. We Will Be Free

(PG-43)
Here's a new twist on a gospel tune. Let's ask religion to take stock of itself and perhaps be receptive to a dose of reality. Can't tolerance and acceptance of other beliefs be a tenet of all of the many religions? What war can you think of that didn't have its roots in religion? Is there an answer in my song? Will it come to fruition? I'm not at all confident that we'll see any change in my lifetime. But awareness would be a start.
LYRICS

If we're afraid to board a plane
Because of those who claim
They're killing others in God's name
We are not free

If religion justifies
The acts of those who terrorize
And war is holy in God's eyes
WE ARE NOT FREE

When we embrace reality
There can be peace
And recognize that our beliefs
There can be peace
Help us bear life's mysteries
THERE CAN BE PEACE

When all mankind sees and proclaims
There will be peace
There's just one God with different names
There will be peace
All the world will be at peace
AND WE WILL BE FREE
ALL THE WORLD WILL BE AT PEACE
AND WE WILL BE FREE

If we try to legislate
When our faith won't tolerate
The choices other people make
WE ARE NOT FREE

We should see the irony
We can be free
Of vying for theocracy
We can be free
With soldiers dying overseas
SO WE CAN BE FREE

When we embrace reality
There can be peace
And recognize that our beliefs
There can be peace
Help us bear life's mysteries
THERE CAN BE PEACE

When all mankind sees and proclaims
There will be peace
There's just one God with different names
There will be peace
All the world will be at peace
AND WE WILL BE FREE
ALL THE WORLD WILL BE AT PEACE
AND WE WILL BE FREE

WHEN WE EMBRACE REALITY AND RECOGNIZE THAT OUR BELIEFS
HELP US BEAR LIFE'S MYSTERIES THERE CAN BE PEACE
WHEN ALL MANKIND SEES AND PROCLAIMS
THERE'S JUST ONE GOD WITH DIFFERENT NAMES
ALL THE WORLD WILL BE AT PEACE AND WE WILL BE FREE
ALL THE WORLD WILL BE AT PEACE AND WE WILL BE FREE
