PG-43: Music

3. Eddie Joe Lee

(PG-43)
Eddie Joe Lee is the name I gave to the guy in Chad Jones's song Emma Joline. Chad does an acoustic guitar-only presentation of his song telling the woes of a guy who is enamored by his perceived flirtations of a waitress, only to leave without pursuing the opportunity. After a change of heart, he returns to the cafe to find the waitress wearing a wedding band. Without waiting for an explanation, the guy retreats once and forever more. I thought I would tell the girl's side of the story in a contemporary country style.
LYRICS

I'd spent nearly half of my life - hopin' that I'd find Mr. Right
While waitin' tables at a Smoky Mountain cafe
When the man of my dreams ordered ham on rye - I flirted my best to catch his eye
But all I managed to get was a tip and his name
I said come back - but he turned and walked away

Yeah he was gone from the time I saw him
Leavin' me with a memory
Never was it meant for me to hold him
But I'll never forget Eddie Joe Lee

For the next three hours my heart was torn - so I took out the ring my mom had worn
And slipped it on to drift back to my dreams
When I turned around and looked through my grief - there stood Eddie in disbelief
And without a word he left and never heard my screams
Sweet Eddie please - this ain't what it seems

Yeah he was gone from the time I saw him
Leavin' me with a memory
Never was it meant for me to hold him
But I'll never forget Eddie Joe Lee

And I'll sing - Sweet Smoky Mountains - oh what I found in
Those eastern hills of Tennessee
I'll never get no closer - I'll never even know him
But I'll never forget Eddie Joe Lee

Yeah he was gone from the time I saw him
Leavin' me with a memory
Never was it meant for me to hold him
But I'll never forget Eddie Joe Lee

Yeah I'll never forget Eddie Joe Lee
