6. The Yes Honey Wedding Blues
(PG-43)
There is one bit of wisdom that every male Boomer knows when it comes to weddings. The pageantry of the event is OF the women, BY the women, and FOR the women. Granted, the official union of the two in matrimony is equally beneficial to the men, but the way in which it is accomplished is best left entirely up to the women. The Boomer Dad tries to pass this sacred truth on for his son's own good. Dad also knows that Mom is going to agree with everything Daughter wants to do, insisting on change only when Mom knows of a more expensive way of doing the same thing. So Dad knows that his only role prior to the ceremony is to say "Yes Honey" to every request made.
LYRICS
My little girl's getting married, but it's sure hard to smile
I don't know if I'll hold up as I walk her down the aisle
Cause when I see 5,000 in a wedding gown, 300 in a pair of shoes
I think I might cry, I got the "yes Honey" wedding blues
When I got the bill from the florist, I thought I would croak
Flowers are nice at a certain price but they ain't worth going broke
The catering ran another 13 grand and that don't include the booze
I know I'm gonna cry, I got the "yes Honey" wedding blues
I'm just here to pay, then stay out of the way
"Yes honey, anything you want" is all I'm allowed to say
I'll never retire, my stack of bills grew higher
And all I got were these "yes Honey" wedding blues
1600 for a wedding cake, if that don't beat it all
And couldn't we just rent a room at the church instead of the Taj Mahal
Now I can't afford to go to my gambling boat and they're going on some cruise
Yeah I'm gonna cry, I got the "yes Honey" wedding blues
Now I have this fear this just ain't my year
If this shindig don't break me up, I know it'll come damn near
I'm just here to pay, then stay out of the way
"Yes honey, anything you want" is all I'm allowed to say
I'll never retire, my stack of bills grew higher, and higher
And all I got were these "yes Honey" wedding blues
I got the "don't say nothin' but yes Honey" wedding blues
